Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor (played by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group understands precisely where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in the powerful family could assist the group access locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Questers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to finding out which players will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
